 ABB first started EWA production and development in Germany over 130 years ago. In 1879 Hans-Curt Jaeger together with his brother Georg founded a metal ware factory in Luedenscheid, Germany, which later became the market leader in Electrical Wiring Accessories in Germany under the brand name of Busch-Jaeger Elektro. In 1969 Busch-Jaeger became part of BBC (today, the ABB Group) selling over 5,500 types of products to countries all over the world.

Based on this history, ABB is now producing EWA products in over 11 factories, achieving market leading position in many markets around the globe.

Production and innovation

At OBO, state-of-the-art production facilities and continuous process optimisation are the precondition for first-class products. With their individual knowledge, each OBO employee in the production facility contributes to the development of the company. Outside Germany, the company has production facilities in Hungary, Switzerland, India, Russia, Great Britain and South Africa. Engineers at OBO are continuously working on further developments to the function, load capacity, availability and installation speed of the products. In the BET Test Centre, highly qualified experts perform electrical analyses, tests of cable support systems and testing of lighting and surge protection components in accordance with the relevant standards. In addition, the impact and effects of lightning strikes are scientifically investigated. OBO has set standards in the field of product development, for example with the Magic cable tray system. It is the world’s first system in which all the important components are equipped with an innovative plug connection. This allows quick mounting, without any screwing.
